Custom Planters:

Seasonal, custom planters add a splash of color to your landscape throughout the changing seasons. We all know and love the bright colors of summer flowers, but a winter planter filled with evergreens and red dogwood twigs can be equally inviting, and a spring arrangement with cold-tolerant pansies, snapdragons, and forsythia branches is a breath of fresh air in the early spring.

Let us create an arrangement of beautiful, seasonally appropriate flowers and plant material, especially for you, with your specific desires in mind.

In order to create a custom planter that lives up to your expectations, and will thrive in its location, we will need to have a quick conversation about your planters. This can often be done over the phone, via email, or in person at the shop. Issues we will discuss include:

- Your style and color preferences
- Any specific plants or decorations you would like included
- The size, shape, and quantity of planters
- The location of the planters (hot afternoon sun? Mostly shaded?)
- Your budget

Many clients like us to switch out the containers each season, to keep the planters looking fresh and beautiful all year long. Other people prefer to focus on just one or two seasons. Each seasonal planter makes use of plant material that is appropriate for the conditions of that season (cold-tolerant, drought-tolerant, etc). The accents and themes used in these planters also change with the seasons (for example: pumpkins or corn stalks in the fall, dogwood twigs or berries in the winter.

We work with all shapes and sizes of containers.  Small planters can be dropped off at the shop, and then picked up once they are completed. Many planters are large and cumbersome,--for most of these, we use plastic liners that can be taken out of the planter (so the planter can stay at your house). We then create your custom arrangement at our shop--once it is complete, the liners can be picked up at the shop. We are also more than happy to deliver the completed liners to your home, and place them in the planters for you. For especially large planters and in-ground annual plantings, we bring all the flowers and materials to you, and create your annual arrangement on site.

We use many annuals in our custom planters, simply because they bloom their little heads off all season. We also use some perennials in our arrangements, when appropriate, like aster, lysimachia, and switchgrass. Large tropicals like palms, bird-of-paradise, and hibiscus, are striking in larger pots, and add a vertical element to the arrangement. Height can also be achieved by using a small trellis with vines like mandevilla, purple hyacinth bean, or moonflower.

In addition to the seasonal flowers in our arrangements, we use a variety of foliage plants, as well as seasonally appropriate accents like pumpkins, twigs, dried flowers, etc. With a thoughtful combination of color, form, and varying textures, our custom planters create a powerful visual impact.
